Climate Smart Communities Assessment

The Climate Resilience Partnership has helped several communities align their recent accomplishments with Climate Smart Communities (CSC) actions to see how close they are to being able to submit for certification. Our CCE staff know the ins and outs of the CSC program and are able to easily maneuver a community through the sometimes arduous task of deciphering what the program requires. This project is beneficial for communities who have recently started or recently re-invigorated progress towards CSC certification.

 What is the process like?

We first work with the community to identify a point person to work with on this project. Regular meetings occur with this person, relevant municipal staff, and volunteers to use the CSC portal and website to determine which actions from the checklist have likely been completed, are in the process of being completed, or may be planned for the near future. The completed actions are then compared to the CSC guidelines to see what else, if anything, is needed before a community can submit for CSC certification.

Who from the municipality is typically involved?

Any of the following people can assist with this project:

  • CSC Chair

  • CSC Task Force members

  • Conservation Advisory Council/Board members

  • Town Supervisor

  • Village/City Mayor

  • municipal staff

What will the municipality receive at the end?

The municipality will receive a document that identifies the CSC actions that they have completed, a range of points that they are likely eligible to receive based on those actions, the specific documentation that will need to be submitted as proof, as well as recommendations of CSC actions to consider pursuing to get to their desired level of certification.
